My Top 14 Favorite Christmas Movies
Christmas is my favorite time of year. I love decorating my house and our tree. While we decorate the tree we always watch a Christmas movie. It is our tradition. We usually watch Home Alone while decorating. Christmas represents different things to different people. If your feeling nostalgic you would love to watch Its a Wonderful Life or Miracle on 34th Street. If you are looking for something fun and entertaining then I would watch Home Alone and/or The Santa Clause.
The best memories I have from my childhood Christmases, aside from my presents, was the family coming together and watching Christmas movies. There is something about watching Christmas movies while looking at your tree and you immediately feel happy and festive. Here are my top 14 favorite Christmas movies.
Home Alone
When bratty 8-year-old Kevin McCallister acts out the night before a family trip to Paris, his mother makes him sleep in the attic. After the McCallisters mistakenly leave for the airport without Kevin; he awakens to an empty house and assumes his wish to have no family has come true. But his excitement sours when he realizes that two con men plan to rob the McCallister residence, and that he alone must protect the family home.
Home Alone is by far is my #1 pick for my favorite Christmas movie. This movie is very special to me. It came out when I was 10 years old. I remember my mom taking me to see it. We thought it was just going to be a “cute” Christmas movie. We saw it a bunch of times in the theater that year.
Home Alone 2
After youth Kevin McCallister loses track of his father at the airport, he mistakenly gets on a plane headed for New York City. While the rest of the McCallisters fly to Florida. Now alone in the Big Apple, Kevin cons his way into a room at the Plaza Hotel and begins his usual antics. But when Kevin discovers that the Sticky Bandits are on the loose, he struggles to stop them from robbing an elderly man’s toy store just before Christmas.
Elf
Buddy was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised among Santa’s elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn’t fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York. He travels in full elf uniform, in search of his real father. As it happens, this is Walter Hobbs, a cynical businessman. After a DNA test proves this, Walter reluctantly attempts to start a relationship with Buddy with increasingly chaotic results.
My son’s favorite part of Elf is when he drinks the entire bottle of soda and burps🙄. My daughters favorite part is when he sneaks into the bathroom at the mall and is listening to Jovie sing while in the shower🎤.
The Santa Clause
Divorced dad, Scott has custody of his son, Charlie on Christmas Eve. After he accidentally kills a man in a Santa suit, they are magically transported to the North Pole. Where an elf explains that Scott must take Santa’s place before the next Christmas arrives. Scott thinks he’s dreaming, but over the next several months he gains weight and grows an inexplicably white beard. Maybe that night at the North Pole wasn’t a dream after all — and maybe Scott has a lot of work to do.
Christmas Vacation
As the holidays approach, Clark Griswold wants to have a perfect family Christmas, so he pesters his wife, Ellen, and children, as he tries to make sure everything is in line, including the tree and house decorations. However, things go awry quickly. Her hick cousin, Eddie, and his family show up unplanned and start living in their camper on the Griswold property. Even worse, Clark’s employers renege on the holiday bonus he needs. All Clarks is the perfect Christmas for him and his family.
This is a classic Christmas movie. We used to watch this movie every Christmas with my entire family. Our favorite part is when Eddie is emptying the toilet in his underwear and when the neighbors pass by he says’ the shitter was full”.
The Grinch
The Grinch and his loyal dog, Max, live a solitary existence inside a cave on Mount Crumpet. His main source of aggravation comes during Christmastime when his neighbors in Whoville celebrate the holidays with a bang. When the Whos decide to make Christmas bigger and brighter, the disgruntled Grinch realizes there is one way to gain peace and quiet. With help from Max, the green grump hatches a scheme to pose as Santa Claus, steal Christmas and silence the Whos’ holiday cheer once and for all.
This is my daughter’s all time favorite Christmas movie. We actually watch this movie all year round. Last year for Christmas she got the Grinch, Max and Cindy Lou stuffed animals. She sleeps with them every night.
Christmas with the Kranks
Finally alone for the holidays, Luther and Nora Krank plan to eschew the Christmas traditions and take a cruise in the Caribbean instead. This doesn’t sit well with their Christmas-obsessed neighbors Vic Frohmeyer and Walt Scheel, who are determined to win the annual “best decorated street” competition. The Kranks soon find themselves social outcasts because of their lack of Christmas spirit. But then their daughter returns with her new boyfriend and is expecting a Christmas Eve party at their house.
Christmas Chronicles
Siblings Kate and Teddy Pierce hatch a scheme to capture Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. When the plan goes awry, the kids join forces with a somewhat jolly Saint Nick and his loyal elves to save the holiday before it’s too late.
Christmas Chronicles 2
Kate Pierce, now a cynical teen, is unhappy spending a family Christmas in Mexico with her mom’s new boyfriend and his son, Jack. Kate decides to run away but Jack follows and they are both unexpectedly transported to the North Pole. When a mysterious, naughty, troublemaker elf threatens the North Pole, the two youngsters must help Santa and Mrs. Claus save Christmas, again.
A Christmas Story
Based on the humorous writings of author Jean Shepherd, this beloved holiday movie follows the wintry exploits of youngster Ralphie Parker, who spends most of his time dodging a bully and dreaming of his ideal Christmas gift, a “Red Ryder air rifle.” Frequently at odds with his cranky dad but comforted by his doting mother, Ralphie struggles to make it to Christmas Day with his glasses and his hopes intact.
Mickey’s Once Upon A Christms
Mickey and his friends tell three stories including “A Very Goofy Christmas” and “Mickey and Minnie’s Gift of the Magi.
Mickey’s Twice Upon A Christmas
Computer-animated movie featuring five shorts starring classic Disney characters. The shorts include “Belles of Ice,” in which Daisy Duck and Minnie Mouse’s friendship comes under strain during an ice skating competition; “Christmas Impossible,” where Huey, Dewey and Louie travel to the North Pole to try to remove themselves from Santa’s naughty list; and “Mickey’s Dog-Gone Christmas,” in which Pluto runs away from home after ruining Mickey Mouse’s Christmas decorations.
Miracle on 34th Street
In this Christmas classic, an old man going by the name of Kris Kringle fills in for an intoxicated Santa in Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day parade. Kringle proves to be such a hit that he is soon appearing regularly at the chain’s main store in midtown Manhattan. When Kringle surprises customers and employees alike by claiming that he really is Santa Claus, it leads to a court case to determine his mental health and, more importantly, his authenticity.
Its a Wonderful Life
George Bailey has so many problems he is thinking about ending it all – and it’s Christmas! As the angels discuss George, we see his life in flashback. As George is about to jump from a bridge, he ends up rescuing his guardian angel, Clarence – who then shows George what his town would have looked like if it he had never been born.
