The Best of Us by Robyn Carr This is the 4th book in the Sullivan’s Crossing series. I do not have any spoilers😉.

The best of Us

Dr. Leigh Culiver

Dr. Leigh Culiver is the town doctor in Timberlake, Colorado and loves her job. She misses her aunt Helen, the woman who raised her. Helen is an independent woman who loved raising her sister’s daughter after she passed away. But now that Leigh is grown, she hopes to start living a life for herself. She is a retired teacher who is now a mystery novel writer.

Helen visits her niece and is surprised that she still needs her, especially when it comes to her love life. Leigh takes Helen to Sullivan’s Crossing where Helen starts to falling love with the place and a special person.

Sully, Rob and Sidney from the previous books

One of her Leigh’s favorites is Sully, who is a central character in the previous books. Helen decides to visit Leigh in Sullivan’s Crossing for the summer. Leigh finds herself falling for the pub owner, Rob; who is Sidney’s brother. They were characters in the 3rd book. Rob has raised two teenage boys and is a widower so he is clear of his expectations of the type of relationship that he wants, and Leigh finds his expectations perfect for both of them……until it doesn’t. The two receive news that will change the dynamic of their relationship and unsure how they can find a solution.

Helen makes friends very quickly especially with Sully. They start spending time together and are exploring if they could possibly have a future together. I loved Sully character in the previous books and loved the fact he finally found love. What I loved was these two characters were both independent but had strong feelings for each other and respected each others boundaries.

I love the slow growing relationship between Rob and Leigh. Sometimes you don’t know what you want until it’s right there in front of you. Sullivan’s Crossing sounds like an amazing place if you love hiking and camping or just enjoy the outdoors. It’s a campground, general store, post office, and more, where The Continental Divide Trail and The Colorado Trail intersect. You could definitely read this book as a stand alone but you would be missing out on the other 3 books which I greatly enjoyed. I just started the 5th book The Country Guesthouse.
